Service Project

The service project i will be working is a summer care at St.Mark's school. I work there in the summer for two days a week for four hours each time. I help kids, from 4th grade and down, with academics they need to work on. i also watch them with the other volunteers that work there. We usually take a field trip every wednesday. We go some place fun for the kids. They have school work in the morning and then they swim and eat lunch in the afternoon. Last summer i got 85 hours from  this project. I think by helping the kids with there schoolwork I'm making a difference even if it's just a little one.

Madagascar

I'm working on my Garage Band project and the movie I'm doing is Madagascar. It's a funny animated movie about some animals from a zoo in New York that escape and find themselves on a island called Madagascar and make friends with some penguins and lemurs and try to get off that island. I really like this movie. It is really funny and fun to watch. I almost have my script written, so tomorrow I will be able to start recording. The music I am using is from the movie. It's called I Like To Move It by Crazy Frog. It's a funny dance song. I'm not really sure how to get the music on there though, so i should probably figure that out. the pictures I am going to be putting up there are from the movie. I will put the characters up there and the island.

cocoon_cfht_big.jpg

Explanation: How did this nebula get created? The Cocoon Nebula, cataloged as IC 5146, is a strikingly beautiful nebula located about 4,000 light yearsaway toward the constellation of Cygnus. Inside the Cocoon is a newly developing open cluster of stars. Like other stellar nurseries, the Cocoon Nebula is, at the same time, an emission nebula, a reflection nebula, and an absorption nebulaSpeculation based on recent measurements holds that the massive star in the center of the above image opened a hole in an existing molecular cloud through which much of the glowing material flows. The same star, which formed about 100,000 years ago, now provides the energy source for much of the emitted and reflected light from this nebula.

Nemiroff, Robert, and Jerry Bonnell. "Astronomy Picture of the Day." Nasa.gov. 14 Oct. 2002. 19 Feb. 2009 .

I chose this picture because it looked really cool and it has pretty colors. It's called the Cocoon Nebula. It's really far away from us thuoght. It's 4,000 light years away. A  light year is the distance light can travel in a year. So we could never see it without a telescope. It is by the constellation Cygnus. If you look inside the Cocoon there are new stars in there. They think that the big star in the center opened a hole in the exsisting molecular cloud and that is why you can see all those colors in the Coccon. I think it is a very pretty picture.

Strange Gadget

There is a weird gadget out there called the shower belt. You literally wear it like a belt and will hook up to facets. The buckle is the nozzle. So wherever you are you can clean yourself. It is targeted toward people who travel a lot, so if they're in the airport and don't have time for a shower they can use their shower belt in the bathroom. It is suppose to save you time, but who would want to shower in  a restroom with their belt. That is a little strange. It can even be hooked up to a water fountain if you need to freshen up just a little bit. The belt is odd but kind of cool.

Athletes

The media has not gone to far reporting stories like this. They are just telling us what is happening with sports and what athletes are up too.  Athletes can have fun other ways beside doing drugs. Everyone looked up to Michael Phelps and he went out and did drugs. They are other ways to let loose than doing drugs. A-Rod shouldn't have taken steroids to get ahead. He should've worked really hard like everyone else does. It's not fair that he gets a lot of fame when he didn't even do some of the work. It is not fair to the rest of the players.

Golf

Did you know that golf can be good for your health. A study has shown that those who play golf have a death rate almost 40 percent lower than non-golfers. Which means it can add an extra five years to your life. It's a form of low-intensity excercise. Your outside for four to five hours walking at a fast pace. it burns up calories, reduces stress, and cholesterol. It gently burns off fat. It can keep your joints in trim when you lower the tee or swing. It releases endorphins in your system which enhance your mood, as long as you don't strive to play like Tiger. Just enjoy yourself out there. It is also a mental challenge. You are constantly thinking when you play golf. You could be calculating yards or counting your shots. It is also a social game that gets you to know someone better. It also teaches you respect for others on the coarse. Injuries are a rare thing on the coarse. It can be good for your health and safe for your heart. Golf carts are fun but, Walking an eighteen hole coarse is like walking four miles. When you are carrying your golf bag you are burning more calories.
